The Last Stand Of Nilgiri Tahr: Nilgiri Tahr is an endangered mountain goat species. It is endemic to Nilgiri hills and the southern portion of western ghats in southern India. Nilgiri Tahr is the state animal of Tamil Nadu.

Endangered Species

Nilgiri Tahr is an endangered mountain goat species. Their number has reduced over the years due to illegal hunting and lack of natural habitats for them. In their species, the males are larger and darker than the females. 
Nilgiri Tahr's are famous for their silvery saddle-like patch on the back. Due to the calculation of WWF-India, the current population of Nilgiri Tahr is around 5000.

        The Nilgiri Tahr is a sturdy goat with short with a rough fur and a bristly mane. Males are larger than females and darker than females when matured. Both sexes have curved horns, reaching up to 
40 centimeters and 16 inches for males and 30 centimeters and 12 inches for females.
