 Can Ants Be Controlled By Electric Waves

Hello, my fellow readers, Once again welcome to my new topic Ant-Man's Antony.

We all are big fans of Avengers. In that movie, Ant-Man is a character who can shrink and control the ants and make them his allies. And he can coordinate them to do anything that he wants, like rotating a coin in a car with the help of three ants😃😃😃. Just kidding.

So in that movie, they said that they can communicate with the ants with the help of electric signals. 

So when I heard that the first question that came into my mind is (Is that possible?, can we communicate with ants too with the help of electric signals ?, and also can I make them rotate the coin for me?😅)

At that moment I have to make it clear that can we communicate with the ants. So as a Nature Scientist I started my research about ants. The research just amazed me with the facts that I found in my research about ants.

Do you know that Ants are eusocial insects of the family Formicidae and, along with the related wasps and bees, belong to the order Hymenoptera?. 

Here are some really important facts about Ants.

• Ants are the longest living insects.
• The bullet ant is said to have the most painful sting in the world.
• There are over 12,000 ant species worldwide.

Ok, the main thing that we were discussing about the ants is that can we communicate with them through electric signals. But before knowing that first, we have to know how they communicate with each other.

The fact is that with ants it's not the electric signals, it's chemicals but they are using the Antennae to detect those chemicals which we called pheromones. Pheromones actually it's a whole complicated communication that ants are doing with each other. So the pheromones can say many different things. Alarm pheromones are letting the other ants know that there is danger around and it actually will change their behavior.

 

So we have the answer about the communication of ants. But going a little more deeply into the ants, another question that came to my mind is about the crazy ants also known as paratrechina longicornis. In the Ant-Man movie Hope say’s that” they can conduct electricity which makes her useful to fry out enemy electronics”.

So actually my question is can crazy ants conduct electricity?

After referring to so much information I couldn’t find out anything to state that ants can conduct electricity. But I found a piece of interesting information about ants while searching for the electricity conducting ants. That is’ The ants feed on structures produced by the fungi called gongylidia. Symbiotic bacteria on the exterior surface of the ants produce antibiotics that kill bacteria introduced into the nest that may harm the fungi.’

The next thing I notice that the strength that Ant-man gets when he becomes smaller. The exciting thing is that the Animals like insects the smaller they are the stronger they are relative to their size. We all want to know why is that?

The strength of an Ant

Actually, it has to do with the surface area to volume ratio. we can calculate ants' strength with this example(“A person was like a 6:3 ant being 300 pounds he will be able to carry 30000 pounds.)

 

Ants get well organized when they have to do some work and they fantastically coordinate with each other to complete that work efficiently and perfectly. They can form into any shape if the situation demands to do something,

 

Finally, the thing I understand personally is that the Ants are smart, resourceful, and tough.
